Christmas Symbols, Traditions, Lore and Superstition



We have many Christmas symbols today which have come to us from antinquity. Below are links to many of the most familiar ones, and some you may not even know about!

There are also many traditions, much lore, and even some superstitions associated with the holiday season. As I run across them, I will link to them here as well.

Symbols of Christmas

Christmas Candles - Candles have always been symbols of Christmas - here you will find a great history of the use of candles to mark this special time of year.

Christmas Lights - created soon after the use of electricity became widespread in the United States, strings of lights have become an increasingly common indoors and out.

Christmas Ornaments - ornaments are an absolute necessity for decorating the tree. They've evolved through the centuries, and many styles have special meaning and stories to go along with them.

Christmas Trees - from the first reported decoration of a Christmas Tree by Martin Luther, trees and other greenery have become essential symbols for families around the world.
